Gamebadges on a tour – sharing the Competence Map to the industry

Gamebadges visits multiple game industry events in Europe this year. Events for autumn will be shared later, as now it is time to share where we’ve been so far, and what is our next stop before summer holiday season.

Thanks for all the events for having us presenting our work. We had a great time in Nordic Game, GameAccess and First Playable.

Launching the tour at the end of May

At the end of May, Gamebadges joined the Nordic Game Conference in Malmo (Sweden), and Game Access in Brno (Czech Republic).

In Nordic Game, we hosted a stand to show off the Game Industry Competence Map, created together with the game industry pros. We were fortunate to have many great discussions during the event, as the Competence Map and Open badges received interest from the industry pros, students and game educators present in the event. On the stand duty in the Nordic Game we had Elina Tyynelä (Neogames Finland), Ria Gynther (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences), Christophe Laduron (WALGA) and Michal Roch (GDACZ).

Our partner Charles University hosted a workshop about the Competence Map use in Game Access. The workshop was run by David Šosvald, and it reached interested students to learn more about how to enter the game industry, and how the Gamebadges Competence Map and Open Badges could support them in that.

During the last week of May, we also launched our very first Challenge Week. At the moment, our evaluators are reviewing the badge applications received in the Challenge Week. If you missed the Challenge Week and possibility to apply for badges, we encourage you to follow our social media channels, and in the meanwhile encourage your team in game studio or teacher with your course to join us as an Gamebadges Early Adopter

Discussions with the Italian game industry

Last week we joined First Playable, a game industry event in Florence, Italy. This was the first time we reached the Italian game industry with our already published Competence Map, and the Open Badges we are testing right now. Our stand was right next to the workshop area, and we reached both the game professionals and students. We were also happy to note the interest for our work in Italy, which supports our understanding that the Competence Map we’ve created is matching with the European Game Industry. Our stand in First Playable was manned by Neogames’ Elina Tyynelä and KooPee Hiltunen.

Next stop: U!REKA CONNECTS

Part of the Gamebadges project is research – and Gamebadges is happy to join U!REKA CONNECTS in Lisbon next week! Our project manager Saija Heinonen (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences) and partner Steven Malliet (LUCA School of Arts) will have U!COM talk about the preliminary study results and co-creation of our Gamebadges ecosystem on June 24th. If you are also joining U!REKA, don’t miss this talk and possibility to discuss with us about the Gamebadges ecosystem.
